Company History
Calibre Environmental Ltd (CEL) was incorporated in the fall of 2003 after Calibre Environmental purchased the assets of a small paint-recycling company. We got our start recycling industrial and commercial paints in small amounts, creating white, beige and grey EcoCoat which was then tested and marketed as a primer for drywall, vertical concrete, block, and stucco.
In September 2004, Calibre Environmental obtained the contract to process City of Calgary post-consumer paint and began searching for a better way to recycle latex paints. In November 2004, we established a relationship with an American organization that had been recycling latex paint since 1992. Calibre Environmental was able to adopt their methods and practices, and in the spring of 2005 we launched our recycled paint to the retail market with fourteen colours of consistently premium quality, 100% recycled latex paint.
In June 2006, Calibre Environmental received an Alberta Emerald Award for environmental excellence. These awards celebrate and showcase the outstanding achievements of Albertans committed to protecting, preserving, enhancing and sustaining our environment.
In 2008, Calibre Environmental became a key part of the new Alberta Paint Stewardship Program which significantly increased the recycling of unused latex paint across the province of Alberta.
In January 2010, Dynamic Paint Products was engaged to help sell and distribute EcoCoat to a growing dealer network across the country. At this time we also responded to consumer demand and began packaging EcoCoat into industry standard 3.78 litre (1 US gallon) cans.
In April 2012, Calibre Environmental shipped its first truckload of natureSecret brand paint to the United States. natureSecret is now distributed throughout New England, and more regional markets are opening up each year.
Calibre Environmental now packages its paint in five different brands: EcoCoat, Phoenix, Echo Paint, natureSecret, and SECONDwind.
